Coffee cupping, or coffee tasting, is the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee. It is a professional practice but can be done informally by anyone or by professionals. A standard coffee cupping procedure involves deeply sniffing the coffee, then slurping the coffee from a spoon so it is aerated and spread across the tongue. The coffee taster attempts to measure aspects of the coffee’s taste, specifically the body (the texture or mouthfeel, such as oiliness), sweetness, acidity, flavor, and aftertaste. Since coffee beans embody telltale flavors from the region where they were grown, cuppers may attempt to identify the coffee’s origin.
We are thrilled to announce that we have brewed some samples of our beans and just did our first cupping here at Metro. We are taking our time to make sure that we bring Casper the very best coffee and a truly unique experience. From going to Chicago to learn more about coffee and how to roast beans, to doing our own taste testing and research, we are happy with our progress and look forward to having the Metro Roastery up and running.
Until then we will make sure we are getting it right.
